Baltimore Education Coalition Press Conference in Annapolis
The Baltimore Education Coalition (BEC) is holding a press conference on Friday, March 24, 10:30 am on Lawyer’s Mall (In front of the State House in Annapolis) to call on the Governor to release a supplemental budget in the amount identified in HB684/SB1024 — $23.7 million for City Schools.
The public is invited to help show Governor Hogan and Maryland legislators that this is an issue of importance to their constituents. |
Tell your State Delegates to Support HB684 and SB1024
The Maryland General Assembly is reviewing bills in the House and Senate that would provide $23.7 million funding to help remedy Baltimore City Public School’s nearly $130 million budget deficit for the 2017-18 school year.
This proposed funding is in addition to funding from the City of Baltimore and a separate agreement between the City and State that would provide $180 million over three years ($60 million per year).
This budget crisis must be resolved in the next couple weeks. If the City School’s budget deficit is not resolved before the end of this year’s Maryland’s Legislative Session, BCPS will be forced to make cuts to teachers and other critical resources. Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA) will lose 77 of its 90 arts faculty. Put another way, if the budget deficit isn’t resolved by April, BSA will be just BS.
Please contact your state delegates to express your support for HB684 and SB1024. You can use your home address to identify your delegates and senator at this website. Remember: Phone calls require little time, no postage stamp and are highly effective in making your opinion known.
